Latest News on Acquiring New Premises
25th Jun 08The Basin Amateur Boxing Club has welcomed the news of the work which has been taking place to secure new premises. Club secretary Rory Thomson informed members at their Wednesday training session that he has been involved in discussions with Montrose Cllr David May for many months seeking alternative premises. While various locations were identified unfortunately these were either unavailable or unsuitable.
However, the possible availability of the old gymnasium at Southesk school was raised, and a site visit was arranged which was attended by the Southesk head teacher, two council officers, Rory Thomson and local councillors David May and Paul Valentine. At the meeting the local councillors both of whom appreciate the excellent work which takes place at the boxing club, gave their full support and made suggestions of a way forward.
Following this other meetings have taken place this week, and an action plan has been agreed, and this has led to the development of a draft constitution, establishment of a committee and work is taking place on a business plan. This has been given direct support and backing of all four Montrose councillors.
It is recognised there will need to be significant fund raising to secure the premises but the long lease would offer the Boxing Club a more secure future.
